Despite a radicalism and consistency that can hardly be surpassed, NRW’s very lively noise and electro-sound scene largely operates “under the radar”. Is it avantgarde, craft, frequency terrorism or overcoming musical convention? In the end, even art? This film documentary dares to take a closer look for the first time, penetrating into the deafening center of sound. The focus is on types and archetypes such as the noise electronic musician Julia Bünnagel from Cologne, who casts her performance records out of cement. Then there’s Carsten Vollmer from Essen with his noise attacks. Or modular synth artist Kai Niggemann from Bochum, noise ambient craftsman Emerge from Augsburg, and word and underground cut-up acrobat Philip Nussbaum from Mönchengladbach. Plus the noisy laptop worker Gehirn, Implosion from the Bremen area. And of course the unpredictable performance tinkerers Kaffee Und Kuchen from Düsseldorf. And prominent music neighbors and contemporary greats (such as radio legend Klaus Fiehe from 1Live or pop culture speaker Till Kniola) explain what noise, atonality or noise techno can mean in each case.
