Powell plays a ƒolder is a multidisciplinary project that combines Powell’s “hYper-ac⊛ustic composition” with “H!-sensitive film and image work” by artists Michael Amstad and Marte Eknæs. The collective describes a ƒolder as a “polyphonic production organism”, a fluid space of artistic production in which sound and image can be assembled, disassembled and reassembled in spontaneous and non-linear forms of expression.

Bio

The artist, musician and producer Oscar Powell lives and works in London. Under the pseudonym Powell, he gained recognition with a series of EPs on his own label, Diagonal Records, which he founded in 2011 to distribute hand-stamped records in small editions. Since then, the label has grown to over 60 physical and digital releases, many of which have become iconic under the visual direction of Guy Featherstone for the label, remaining influential in the intersection of music, visual arts, and performance. He has released danceable music on the indie giant XL Recordings, as well as his first solo album, “Sport,” an unapologetic critique of entrenched narcissism in a post-EDM era. In 2018, Powell collaborated with Turner Prize-winning photographer Wolfgang Tillmans. He continues to tour globally, both as a solo artist and in collaboration with Tillmans, Lorenzo Senni [Editions Mego, Warp], and Russell Haswell [Mute, Warp, Diagonal, Editions Mego]. More recently, his 4K hyper-audio compositional work draws on ongoing research in the fields of system theory, mathematics, Deleuzian thought, and the natural world.
