The live performance “TRANS” plays with the idea of movement, change and overcoming. Although the departure for something new always means saying goodbye to the tried and tested, the minimal and ambient productions do not sink into melancholy. “TRANS” is composed slowness, an indulgence in self-sufficiency, addicted to harmony, serious, opulent and filigree, repetitive and full of vitality. A radiant power rests in the electro-acoustic pieces, which aurally explore the bipolar positions between digital awakening and analogue past. “TRANS” is a sound plea for transformation and, despite its shy manner, unmistakably haunting.

Bio

Markus Mehr is a German musician and composer of experimental music. In addition to album productions (“Grünrekorder”, “HSR”), he composes music for experimental film projects and realises sound installations. His works are based on phonographs and field recordings, which he transforms into synthetic sound sculptures by means of digital processing and reorganisation. The Augsburg-based artist researches the sound behind the sound. Sounds are dissected microscopically and reassembled in a sophisticated way with the help of pitch shifting, time manipulation, looping and harmonic distortion. Conventional instruments are rarely used.
