Lau Nau combines analogue modular synthesizer sounds and electro-acoustic sounds for her performances. The compositions from her album “5×4”, which thematically deals with crustaceans, zooplankton and the changing environment of the Baltic Sea, take centre stage. Hydrophonic water sounds meet voice recordings and field recordings, translating marine processes (for example the effects of varying salinity on the life of zooplankton or light-dark effects in the eutrophic sea) into music, so to speak.
Bio
Finnish composer Laura Naukkarinen works under the stage name Lau Nau. Her finely crafted sound productions are idiosyncratic in nature. In addition to classical instruments, she uses vocals, modular synthesisers, cassette recorders and field recordings. Lau Nau is known for her music for films and multi-channel sound installations. As a sound designer, she was awarded the Finnish State Prize for Performing Arts in 2021. In 2023 she released the albums “5 x 4” and “Aphrilis”.
