“Diaries Beneath Fragile Glass”, recorded during long, lonely days in the Finnish city of Turku, is a record of time that alternately crystallises and liquefies. Delicate puddles, rushing streams flooded with sunlight and the soft creaking of the frozen mark the slow rhythm of days that are difficult to distinguish from one another. With a detuned zither, alienated voice and guitar sound, Martyna Basta creates an atmosphere that at first seems crystalline and clear, only to be abruptly broken by glass shattering into fine dust.

Bio

The artist Martyna Basta, based in Krakow, creates a delicate atmosphere with her diaristic sound, navigating the tension between lushness and eeriness. The Polish composer, who initially received classical guitar training, departed from the academic world at the age of 18, replacing her original instrument with a synthesizer. For her compositions, she employs modulated vocals, electronics, and field recordings. With her debut album “Making Eye Contact with Solitude,” released on the Slovakian label Warm Winters, she quickly established a distinctive presence in the European experimental scene.
