With CONCUSSSSION, Amma Ateria embarks on a musical-analytical exploration of the consequences of an accident (an impact on the orbital and frontal bone). A novel sound palette is created from low-frequency binaural beats, brainwave entrainment, aurally correct volume equalisation and time shifts. A process that utilises sound compositions, recordings, visual scores and time-based projections and interrogates them as documents. Silence, unconsciousness and auditory hallucinations: How does one’s own recovery change the effects of collective resilience?

Bio

Amma Ateria: Born in Hong Kong, she currently lives in San Francisco and New York City. Ateria has been presenting her work worldwide since studying composition at Mills College, specialising in electronic music, sound engineering and media technology. She has performed with Ikue Mori, Pauline Oliveros, Tarek Atoui and others. As an electroacoustic composer and sound artist, she explores psychoacoustics with binaural beats, brainwave entrainment and equal loudness contour. She deliberately navigates between opposites, transforming deafening noise into self-hypnosis and metamorphosis, oscillating between ostinato overtones, musique concrète and lost language.
