“Impressive… Explosions of strangely affected oral fanfare” – [The Wire]. Unique songworlds with transcendent vocal interpretations that simultaneously deconstruct Western classical, Japanese folk and the atmosphere of nature. Hatis Noit is an amazing autodidact who has been inspired by everything she could find, from gagaku – Japanese classical music – and opera styles, Bulgarian and Gregorian chants to avant-garde and pop singers.

Bio

The Japanese vocal performer Hatis Noit lives in London. She collaborated with renowned visual artist Nobumichi Asai on the project Inori (Prayer), which she presented live at Mutek Japan in Tokyo. She has performed solo shows at various festivals across Europe, collaborated with Kevin Richard Martin aka The Bug and the NYX Electronic Drone Choir and can be heard on recordings by Masayoshi Fujita and Ukrainian pianist and continuous music pioneer Lubomyr Melnyk. In 2019, she performed at David Lynch’s Manchester International Festival and was part of US producer Rick Rubin’s Showtime documentary series Shangri-la.
