Combining digital and analogue sound, Kris Kuldkepp explores new sonic possibilities with double bass and live electronics. In doing so, Kuldkepp shifts the tropes of the solo double bass so far that we don’t necessarily hear what we expect from this instrument. Her instrument acts like a trickster, taking on many sonic forms over the course of the performance, its pure, deep sound ringing out quietly against a backdrop of electronic sounds. The result is a post-industrial sound world.

Bio

Kris Kuldkepp (EE) is an experimental musician and performance artist. After years of performing classical and early music on the double bass and viola da gamba, she currently works with DIY audio techniques in combination with cutting-edge technologies to create a unique fusion of traditional music and sonic disruption. In addition to the double bass, the Hamburg-based musician uses found objects, motors and other noisemakers for her sound creations. Her aim is to deconstruct the forms of musical structures and thus enable new musical experiences.
