At the Atelier Automatique in Bochum, where culture is regularly created, shown and discussed, we also want to facilitate a critical discourse. How can we situate sound instead of claiming it as universal? How can we understand the sonic relationally and environmentally and thereby also think globally and feministically?

Whether current projects called ,,FEMINIST SONIC TECHNOLOGIES” or ,,⥰ her safe space ★ with ASARA”, one thing is clear: Antje Greie-Ripatti aka. AGF has built an ongoing career of feminism, network building, collaborative practices and radical ecology. In the studio she introduces us to her project “rec-on.org listening space for political sound”.

Pedro Oliveira is not only a sound artist, but also a lecturer in Sound Studies. In his writings he repeatedly emphasizes a localization of sound art: a decolonizing practice of sound art that focuses on the border areas between the materiality of the sound object and its aesthetic-relational qualities.

In cooperation with the seminar Sound Environments of the Institute for Media Studies at the Ruhr-University Bochum, led by Natalie Pielok, we want to open the space for a common conversation and cordially invite interested parties to our Lecture and Talk event this year.

*Natalie Pielok M.A., media scientist at the Ruhr-University Bochum. Works on the embodiment of the sonic, as well as on audiovisual media with a special focus on gender and queer theory.
