That fits! In a city where coke and iron ore once met for a red-hot rendezvous, Electric Indigo is now unpacking her “ironware”: In the A/V performance for her current album “Ferrum”, she amalgamates recordings of metallic objects with introspective techno rhythms and embeds them digitally in varying environmental textures.
What is melodic and what is percussive often only becomes clear upon concentrated listening. White noise, crunch and glitches gradually sort themselves into loop patterns, head and body drifting into a trippy deja vu. And she shows DJ routine when she gets the audience grooving from the first tone with pulsating kick drum and metallic sound loops. Her visuals explore the molecular spectral structures of metals and their optical transformations under varying environmental influences. And despite the restrictions of the material, Electric Indigo opens up a seemingly unlimited world of colours and rhythms – oscillating, resonant and highly immersive.
Electric Indigo (AKA Susanne Kirchmayr) is one of Europe’s leading specialists in computer music, in avant-garde concerts as well as in club contexts: she lives and works in Vienna and Berlin. In 1998 she founded Female:Pressure, an international network for female, non-binary and transgender artists in electronic music. Her compositions have premiered at festivals like Wien Modern, CTM and Heroines of Sound. Her debut album “5 1 1 5 9 3” on Imbalance Computer Music is now followed by “Ferrum” on Editions Mego.
