“The forest is a complex ecosystem consisting mainly of trees that buffer the earth and support a myriad of life forms. (The trees help create a special environment which, in turn, affects the kinds of animals and plants that can exist in the forest.) Trees are an important component of the environment. They clean the air, cool it on hot days, conserve heat at night, and act as excellent sound absorbers.“
Born and raised in a city close to the harbour of Antwerp the most nearby trees were at the zoo. The closest forest was a 1 hour ride with tram or bus. Today I live in a suburb of Antwerp. Although it’s a green area, again to enjoy being in a forest asks for some travel. Flanders region is only for 10 % planted with trees. After some research I decided to inspire my contribution for “ Forest and Sound “ by a planted forest “ het muizenbos “ in Ranst, a small village close to Antwerp.
