Multisensory interference: while the spread of sound can still be partially controlled physically, this is virtually impossible with smells, aromas and fragrances. „Transitory Presences is a fragile artistic encounter between sound, scent and fleeting form, creating a new kind of resonance at the BLAUES RAUSCHEN festival. During Yolanda Uriz Elizalde’s performance, vibrations become visible in aromatic smoke: loudspeaker membranes set light, scent and air in motion, while pulsating sounds shape semi-irregular silhouettes in space. For the festival, the artist is reactivating a work, originally developed in 2014/2015, which oscillates between performance and installation, in an exclusive, new version – to produce a kind of meditative laboratory in which hearing, smelling and seeing temporarily merge.

Yolanda Uriz Elizalde (born in 1982 in Pamplona, Spain) lives near Barcelona, Spain and works in between Netherlands and Spain. Trained at the ArtScience Department of the KABK (Royal Academy of Art, The Hague), her work explores physical and chemical phenomena such as vibration, electromagnetic waves and molecules, which we perceive as sound, light or smell. Using digital tools, DIY perfumery and experimental setups, she develops multi-sensory installations and performances that expand the boundaries of human perception. Her work has been shown at Sonic Acts, Ars Electronica and Sonar, among others; since 2013, she has been a member of the iii collective (instrument inventors initiative, The Hague), an artist-run platform that supports radical interdisciplinary practices dealing with image, sound, space and the body.
