Robert Lippok

Within Robert Lippok’s practice, ‘Material’ marks a consistent shift from the work to the process. Sound appears here not as a temporally closed form, but as a spatially, materially and socially effective quantity. The work continues Lippok’s long-standing exploration of architecture, outdoor space and sonic continuation, as already established in projects such as ‘Feld’ (presented at the Venice Biennale, 2024). The new format ‘Material,’ premiered in 2025 at the Festival of Future Nows at the Neue Nationalgalerie, operates within a set of unstable configurations: sound densities shift, materials enter into changing relationships, spatial settings remain reversible. In a parallel with musique concrète, material itself becomes the vehicle of action; its relationships remain changeable, its state never complete. Instead of a normative score, an open field of decision-making emerges, in which situational action instead becomes the compositional principle – something that resonates particularly well with the experimental nature of the BLAUES RAUSCHEN festival.

Robert Lippok is a Berlin-based composer and artist working at the intersection of sound, space and technology. Since the early 1980s, he has been shaping experimental music with projects such as Ornament und Verbrechen and To Rococo Rot. His solo works – including those on raster-noton / raster-media – combine electronic composition with architectural thinking. Today, Lippok works on site-specific installations, performances and transdisciplinary projects spanning club culture, ecology, urban research and media art.
