Thomas Breuer
- Answer in my disorder
Feedback loops and ‘deliberate’ faulty circuits, fragile or brute: the music of Answer in my disorder by Thomas Breuer (better known under the stage name Vactrolog), often thrives on radical sonic symbiosis. He uses Buchla and Serge modular systems, among other self-built circuits, to make electricity not only audible but also a sculptural experience. For him, sounds are initially raw material that he purifies, layers and interweaves to generate unheard sound topographies. In his studio laboratory VACTROLOG, he conducts sound research that consciously questions and breaks seemingly existing production rules − his focus is on the interrelationship between artistic control and creative chaos.
Since 2021, Thomas Breuer has curated the annual sound festival StromWandlungSchall. His own performances rely on generative patches where automated modular connections develop dynamically. Guided by (calculated) chance, the setup adapts in real time creating a fluid dialogue between performer, machine and the moment. At BLAUES RAUSCHEN, Breuer will craft an evolving sonic ecosystem in which fragmented signals dissolve into dense, pulsating textures before reforming into unexpected rhythmic structures − blurring the lines between composition and spontaneous discovery.
