Emotional resonances − between introspection, tradition and illusion

The atelier automatique in Bochum opens its doors to the connection between theory and practice. Natalie Pielok, a media scientist at Ruhr University Bochum, presents the cooperation seminar “Sonic Fiction.” It deals with sound as a medium for cultural and speculative thought. Following this, artist Jessica Ekomane talks about her perspective on the potential of sound. In exchange with the participating students, the entanglements between research, artistic practice, and festival programming are further deepened.

At the Schlegel Kultur Club in Bochum, a creative space for experimental art and music, three artists whose works thematize the interplay between traditional heritage and innovative sound techniques will come together. Their performances draw on concepts such as resonance, deconstruction and interference and expand the possibilities of emotional and cultural forms of expression.

Sally Decker uses sound as an interface between the individual and the environment. Her music creates intimate resonances that are both introspective and communicative. Bela combines the Korean tradition of pungmul with electronic sounds and metal-inspired vocals, resulting in an exciting deconstruction of traditional music. Jessica Ekomane works with the transformation of rhythmic structures, which she deliberately breaks down and places in new contexts. Her compositions merge minimalism with psychoacoustic effects, creating illusions that question our acoustic perception. The evening shows how sound serves as a tool of transformation − be it through introspective processes, the deconstruction of traditions or the fusion of organic and digital soundscapes.
