Fragile intimacy and atmospheric textures: the sound research practice of composer and performer Sally Decker revolves around the emotional potential of sound as an interface between the individual and the environment. Originally from the Midwest of the USA, she now lives in California. She deepened her experimental approach to composition and sound art at the renowned Mills College − a place that has served as a laboratory for many pioneers of electroacoustic music.  

Feedback, synthesizer, vocals, text and voice are integral components of Decker’s music. It is both introspective and communicative − an acoustic practice that translates healing techniques and artistic rituals into sound. Her album In The Tender Dream is such an exploration − a meditation on vulnerability, resonance and transformation.  

Her performance Fantasy Space explores the blurred boundaries between personal vulnerability and fictional world-building. On stage, Decker transforms her performance into an immersive soundscape in which melodic fragments and textural abstractions interweave with generative elements. With customized vocal processing and complex feedback systems, she creates visceral sound spaces that inscribe themselves deeply into the body’s memory, as we will experience at this year’s BLAUES RAUSCHEN Festival.
