Techno, sound research, algorithmic composition: Robert Henke is one of the defining figures of the electronic music landscape. As co-founder of Monolake and co-developer of the music software Ableton Live, he has influenced not only the sound but also the production methods of an entire generation. Henke’s work explores the boundaries of club music and audiovisual art, always with a fascination for the mechanics of sound. Based in Berlin, he combines academic rigour with a radical love of experimentation − a tireless researcher in the laboratory of sound.
Robert Henke approaches performance as a multi-sensory event. Whether with laser-driven installations such as Lumière, where sounds merge into sharp-edged flashes of light, or with his analogue hardware set-up for Monolake − his shows are both precisely calculated algorithms and raw, impulsive live experiences. He expands the concept of performance by merging technology and improvisation, allowing machines to breathe in a futuristic sense and consciously staging random processes. This creates a field of tension between control and chaos that makes his live acts both challenging and hypnotizing. At BLAUES RAUSCHEN he will present a new 6-channel sound performance with Dust.
