Panic Girl

Cinematic breadth and sophisticated sound design: Munich-based Panic Girl, aka Martha Bahr, has found her very own, distinctive approach to modular sound production. The producer and composer plays with contingency, leaves some decisions to chance and repeatedly works with randomized processes.

With her performance Basalt Echoes, Panic Girl invites the audience to an electronic sound journey between modular synthesizer and wooden samplers. It is the fascination for the extraordinary that creates constantly changing soundscapes − a sound journey full of unexpected textures and fascinating contrasts.

The result of her setup between modular Eurorack system, ARP 2600, Waldorf Iridium Core and various Moog synthesizers is a soundtrack-like, electronica-like experimental music; a preference that Panic Girl developed through the influences of Massive Attack and other pioneers of abstract electronica. The coexistence of abstract and progressive elements also characterizes Panic Girl’s four albums to date, which bear witness to the inventive spirit of the trained sound engineer. In addition to her own productions, which can be categorized as intelligent dance (and listening) music, she is also in demand as a film music composer, for example for the Netflix drama Paradise in 2023.
