The Virtual Trombone developed by Moritz Wesp is a fascinating reinvention of its established namesake. Wesp’s virtual instrument literally plays into the air where normally bells or slides are touched and guided. The technical features of the instrument include various sensors with exotic names such as Theremin Distance Sensor or Virtual Plunger. The instrument allows Wesp to experience the physicality and intuitiveness of the analogue model, while no longer being held back by physical limitations; the music he presents at BLAUES RAUSCHEN is correspondingly unrestricted and strikingly magical.  

The fact that he develops, constructs and programmes his instruments himself is part of the fascination of the multi-faceted musician Moritz Wesp, who has rapidly made a name for himself in the European jazz and improvisation scene: As a composer and trombonist in various group constellations, as a leader or as an innovative, experimental, sometimes shrill sideman. At BLAUES RAUSCHEN 2024, Wesp was already a participant in the workshop ‘Creative exploration: co-creation in the digital era’ and contributed his skills to the performance ‘What’s a Boy without a Name?’.
