Midori Hirano x Kaliber16

Midori Hirano, born in Kyoto and living in Berlin, is a musician, composer and producer. Her music combines acoustic instruments such as piano and strings with subtle electronic processes and field recordings. She creates soundscapes that oscillate between the familiar and the enraptured, deeply melancholic and fuelled by an artistic curiosity to break through the boundaries of what (she) knows; most recently documented on the two albums Minor Planet and Invisible Island. Her compositions are like Polaroids from a fleeting world, in which fragmented melodies mingle with digital noise and hover between memories and visions.

Live, Midori Hirano develops an enigmatic presence: fragile but precise, with spontaneous electronic manipulations. In collaboration with visual artists and dancers, she often expands her sound universe to include synaesthetic dimensions. For BLAUES RAUSCHEN, she swaps the piano for the synthesizer, which allows her to explore her own artistic career and her MimiCof project, which was discontinued years ago. The immersive dimensions of this performance emphasize what is always an organic process, this time enhanced by live visuals by filmmaker Markus Wambsganss, also known as Kaliber16. A flickering fabric that’s somehow both construction and decay.
