Julie Herndon

California-based composer, performer and sound artist Julie Herndon explores the subtle connections between sound, body and technology in her work. By combining live electronics with acoustic instruments, she succeeds in creating novel soundscapes whose sensory experience provides new insights into our socio-ecological cultural spaces. Julie Herndon‘s compositions have been presented at renowned venues and festivals. Her recent collaborations include an intermedia work on the microscopic life of mud with the [Switch~] Ensemble, an audio-visual chamber opera with the Decoder Ensemble and the development of wearable glove instruments with the andPlay Duo.

Her live performance at BLAUES RAUSCHEN, designed as an immersive, site-specific experience, goes beyond the conventional, time-honored concert format. Julie Herndon invites the audience into shifting aural landscapes in which organic and synthetic elements continuously merge and evolve. She models ephemeral sound textures and electronically manipulates classical chamber music settings.
