Hany Tea x Emma Lo
- When I cover my ears
In search of untold stories and collective memories: Hany Tea is an interdisciplinary artist, researcher and sound explorer. Her practice combines migration, storytelling and oral history to explore how languages and sonic traces (she is particularly interested in the Đàn bầu, a Vietnamese monochord that produces harmonics by gently pressing) shape personal and collective narratives. As an activist and community organiser, she explores the intersections of diaspora, sound and narrative art.
She is joined by Emma Lo, a writer, researcher and sound artist specializing in embodied archives and collective sonic expression. Together, Hany and Emma co-founded Spätifunk Berlin (a project about Berlin latecomers) and are part of the Mutating Kinship Lab (MKL), an artistic think tank fostering dialogue and collaboration within Germany’s Asian artist diaspora.
Their BLAUES RAUSCHEN live performance When I cover my ears explores human polyphony in complex soundscapes. Using field recordings, spoken word and improvised elements on digital and acoustic instruments, they reflect sonically on oppression while channeling vocal and rhythmic resistances – both personal and collective. An immersive experience drawing the audience into a world of sound and storytelling.
