,,Calder Plays Theremin”- this video is a tribute both to inventor Leon Theremin, whose eponymous invention has inspired generations of musicians and instrument makers, and to sculptor Alexander Calder, who “turned centuries-old notions of static, grounded, and dense sculpture on its head, creating artworks that often move freely and interact with their surroundings,” according to MoMA. In Chrysler’s project, Calder’s sculptures co-control the sound of the theremin, creating a unique and magical composition between object and artist: a quadraphonic audio-visual installation…and, of course, Dorit Chrysler will play her theremin live afterwards!
