"Unlocked"
Unlocked is the latest live music performance by singer and producer Chagall, in which she explores her relationship with a reactive light art installation called B.A.B.Y. (Bionic Assistant for Becoming Yourself). As she sings, Chagall controls all the musical and visual elements of this performance with the movements of her hands and body in real time. To do this, she uses the self-co-invented sensor-controlled MiMU-Gloves, a full-body motion-capture suit (Xsens) and special software. The audience witnesses an organic and intimate interplay of human body, voice, light and music.
Vita
Chagall’s projects oscillate between musical expression, software development, programming, the use of sensor technology and performance and brought her international attention early on. Her appearance at TEDx events, Ableton Loop, MUTEK Montreal, Reeperbahn Festival, Sonar +D, Dutch Design Week, Nesta Futurefest and Boiler Room not only show that her fascination with humanising electronic music performance has paid off, but also strikes a chord. Since 2017, with an entirely self-produced live set, she travelled the globe addressing how productive the use of sensor technology can be in music. Her 2019 project Advaita was followed by Weather a Wall, a 2021 performance created in collaboration with choreographer David Middendorp and broadcast to two million viewers on national television.
