Algorithmic resonances – music in dialogue with man, machine and code

The third day of the festival at the Alter Wartesaal in Herne is dedicated to artistic practices that explore the relationship between technology, sound art and interaction in a new way. The invited artists work in the field of algorithmic composition, a musicological discipline that generates sound through formal rules, machine learning and systemic processes.

The Latvian-Lithuanian duo The Remains of Decay x Egle Saka combine modular sound design and analogue video aesthetics to create meditative, audiovisual experiences. Greek composer Artemi-Maria Gioti works at the interface of AI, robotics and participatory music. Her works confront human and machine musicians and question musical authorship. Eckard Koltermann will perform the piece BIAS II on the bass clarinet. Robert Henke, known as Monolake, has been shaping the electronic avant-garde for 30 years and creates audiovisual performances between composition, data manipulation and algorithmic sound design.
