With its live events, BLAUES RAUSCHEN repeatedly brings together listening as a cultural practice with performative elements. Listeners and artists become active participants in a mutual reaction process that is virtually impossible to reproduce, but whose results lead to continuous further development. For Burgund t Brandt’s live improvisation ‘Between Distances’, software-defined radio (SDR) – otherwise used in amateur radio, military, and mobile communications, among other areas – is a central component of a highly complex network of volatile noise sources, targeted syntheses, and field recordings. All fragments build on each other and form an electroacoustic performance at the BLAUES RAUSCHEN festival that understands ecology not only as a theme but also as a medium for experimental sound research. This extra-progressive approach breaks through the already contingent boundary between supposedly natural and artificial sounds by incorporating bioacoustic (microscopic) sounds.

burgund t brandt – a.k.a. Amelie Neumann – lives and works in Leipzig and Berlin. She is a scientist, sound artist and ‘sound thinker’. After studying in Cologne and at the Berlin University of the Arts, she established herself in the German sound research and performance scene. Her practice encompasses installation, performance, audio pieces and composition, often extended into the visual space. She is part of the duo Nadelør, the artist group PARA and the Cologne ensemble Elektrische Leiter.
