soundvision

Making sound visible is always a matter of interpretation, translation, transformation from one sense to another. Can we generalise this process of change? And reduce or shorten the steps necessary for this? Or is an exclusively subjective artistic interpretation the only key to creating tangible sound-visuals?

As a musician, performer and multimedia artist, Max Schweder is part of the international, integrative and interdisciplinary performing arts company Un-Label. Whilst working as a researcher at the Academy for Theatre and Digitality in Dortmund (Germany), he developed the installation SOUNDVISION in a team with the artists and programmers Dr. Chikashi Miyama and Naoto Hiéda. SOUNDVISION is a Unity-based artistic tool for reactive real-time visualisations of sound, music and movement with the goal of making them more visually perceptible, e.g. also for deaf audiences. It aims to visualise not only general or solely bipolar parameters, such as dynamics, pitch level or articulation, but also the more complex relationships and connections between sounds.

A sound-reactive virtual embodiment is achieved with the help of a 3D camera and microphone. Visitors to BLAUES RAUSCHEN can virtually experience personal fusions of sounds and bodies.
