Daijing, who grew up in Guiyang, China, focuses on sound rather than music. heavy, strange machine sonics disrupted by emphatic voices, or field recordings and live improvisation. This becomes clear as she channels her energy into unsettling plucked strings, operatic voices and cracking sounds over haunting drones. Although it lies somewhere along the spectrum of noise music, her sound creates a strange sense of calm.

Daijing’s digital mixture takes us into a dream whose plot you can’t quite put together when you wake up once more – an aural vision that leaves a mark on your psyche. Soul-shrouding expressions and aesthetic bursts of sound are the axes around which she rotates. Her poetic, sometimes apparently uncanny work often oscillates along paradoxical conceptual states, making the heart race and the skin vibrate. Her live performance is thrilling and addictive, and this despite the fact that her preference for the uncomfortable definitely seems like a tonal adaptation of the discomfort inherent in David Lynch’s “Eraserhead”.

Pan Daijing is an artist, composer and musician currently based in Berlin who explores experimental modes of storytelling across disciplines including sound, moving images and choreography. Her performances draw their dynamic and power from psychological and emotional experiences that oscillate between affective intimacy and dramatic tension. They are immersive, sensory experiences that preferentially address concepts of philosophy and the human experience.
