Valve Strategies takes the word ‘digital’ back to its roots: the trumpet’s finger system, reimagined as a controller for channel assignment & spatialisation. The soundscape moves between electro-acoustic experimental music and song structure. Small instruments and amplifications are made from simple and reusable materials (reeds cut from recycled plastic packaging, mouthpieces assembled from the parts of old accordions and flexible tubes taken from bellows) and then combined with newer technologies (ipad, controller) to create a hybrid junk lab. Liz Allbee is a composer-performer, currently residing in Berlin. She works most commonly with trumpet, quad trumpet, electronics and voice. Her music includes improvisation, electro-acoustic composition and instrument making, often with a focus on issues of physicality and extension.
