A hand moves, whilst wired and connected to a computer. A beamer casts microscopic images onto the floor and wall. In her performance SKIN, Claudia Robles combines new sound elements, recording fields and algorithmic sound processing to create a complex composition. The central element is a GSR (Galvanic Skin Response) interface that measures the moisture of her skin and changes the audiovisual environment correspondingly. The variations in these values provide indications of psychological or physiological stimulation, like stress and relaxation. The extraordinary visual environment is created by images of the artist’s skin that are recorded and processed in real time.

The work of Colombian media and sound artist Claudia Robles-Angel has been performed and exhibited worldwide. Her research covers various aspects of visual and acoustic art, ranging from audio-visual compositions with set media to performances and installations that interact with biomedical signals through interfaces such as the EEG (electroencephalogram, measurement of brain wave activity). Among others things, she has been artist-in-residence at ZKM Karlsruhe (DE), KHM Cologne (DE), ICST – Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technologies ZHdK Zurich (CH) and CMMAS – the Mexican Centre for Music and Soundarts, Morelia (MEX).
