Quadrophonic whir and buzz in the room. Sound becomes sculpture…and draws us into its interior. The filigree sound fabric causes objects distributed in the room to vibrate. Caroline Profanter’s project hangs on the border of the perceptible between the poles of fixed sounds of an installation and improvisational freedom. The electronic microtonal sounds create a feedback circuit – the four sound bodies become a sonic organism that changes continuously, modulated by electronic interference from the environment. Microscopic field recordings contrast and complement the sound sculpture through spatialization via the room-specific loudspeaker setup. This performance takes us into a game of perception between organic and synthetic sound forms and the gray areas in between.

Caroline Profanter from South Tyrol is a composer and performer for electroacoustic and acousmatic music. She composes pieces for loudspeaker orchestras and deals with free and structured live improvisation as well as graphic notation in collaboration with different musicians between analog electronics, computer, voice and instrument. She alienates sounds and noises from the urban and natural everyday environment and combines them with sound material of electronic, instrumental and vocal origin. Since 2017 she has been part of the team at the Q-O2 workspace for experimental music and sound art in Brussels.
